Due to a voluntary recall by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl, Rolaids, Simply Sleep and St. Joseph products are not available. This recall follows an investigation of consumer reports of an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew odor that, in a small number of cases, was associated with temporary and non-serious gastrointestinal events including nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, or diarrhea.

On March 30, 2009 Setton Farms of California recalled pistachios produced at their facility on or after September 1, 2008. The contamination involves multiple strains of Salmonella. It is not yet known whether any of the Salmonella strains found in the pistachio products are linked to an outbreak.

We are currently checking with our suppliers to determine products that are affected by this recall. We will update this site with specific information as soon as it becomes available.

In the meantime, the FDA "recommends that consumers avoid eating any products containing pistachios. These products should not be thrown out until additional information is available regarding specific products that are subject to the recall."

Reason: Potential for contamination with Clostridium Botulinum.

The items were removed from store shelves after the manufacturer informed Giant that some aspects of the manufacturing process did not meet their food safety standards and the products may have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death.

Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause the following symptoms: general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation may also be common symptoms.

There are no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product.

Do not open or puncture any unopened can of the recalled product.
Dispose of food that may be contaminated by placing in a sealable bag, wrapping another plastic bag around the sealable bag, and then taping tightly. Place bags in a trash receptacle for non-recyclable trash outside the home and out of reach of humans and pets. Do not discard the food in a sink, garbage disposal, or toilet. Avoid splashing and contact with the skin. Wear rubber or latex gloves when handling open containers of food that you think may be contaminated. Wash hands with soap and running water for at least 2 minutes after handling food or containers that may be contaminated.

FDA has issued an advisory regarding Jalapeno peppers distributed by Agricola Zaragoza, Inc. of McAllen, TX, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Giant has not received or sold any jalapeno peppers from this producer.

However, as a precaution, we have decided to remove from sale all fresh Jalapeno peppers and fresh salsas containing Jalapeno peppers.

Fresh Raw Tomatoes

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today lifted its advisory that consumers not eat certain tomatoes from certain areas. After a lengthy investigation, the FDA has determined that fresh tomatoes now available in the domestic market are not associated with the current outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul. FDA has said that U.S. consumers should enjoy any and all tomatoes on the market.
