FDA Advisory:

Jalapeno Peppers

Date: July 22, 2008

FDA has issued an advisory regarding Jalapeno peppers distributed by Agricola Zaragoza, Inc. of McAllen, TX, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Giant has not received or sold any jalapeno peppers from this producer.

However, as a precaution, we have decided to remove from sale all fresh Jalapeno peppers and fresh salsas containing Jalapeno peppers.

We advise consumers to continue to check our website for updated information.

Advisory Update:

Fresh Raw Tomatoes

July 18, 2008

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today lifted its advisory that consumers not eat certain tomatoes from certain areas. After a lengthy investigation, the FDA has determined that fresh tomatoes now available in the domestic market are not associated with the current outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul. FDA has said that U.S. consumers should enjoy any and all tomatoes on the market.

Certain Types of Raw Tomatoes

Advisory Date: June 11, 2008

FDA has updated the Advisory on Raw Tomatoes. We want you to know that all raw tomatoes now available at Giant and raw tomatoes used in our deli and prepared foods areas are from approved growing areas. We will continue to monitor this situation and encourage you to check our website for updates.

FDA Advisory:

Certain Types of Raw Tomatoes

Advisory Date: June 8, 2008

Due to the recent consumer advisory from the FDA, Giant is removing from sale all raw red roma, raw red round and raw red plum tomatoes, as well as fresh salsas and other products containing raw tomatoes of these varieties. We will continue to sell tomatoes on the vine (also known as cluster tomatoes), cherry tomatoes, and grape tomatoes, which were not listed in the FDA advisory. We will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action as necessary.

According to Hamilton Beach, the heating elements in the toasters may stay on after the toaster pops up, creating a potential fire hazard. The affected products were sold from August 1, 2007 through February 29, 2008. Recall Date: March 5, 2008 Available at Giant: No. The affected products were not sold at Giant. Product was shipped to 17 states including Texas, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois, Florida, Missouri, Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Ohio, New York, New Mexico, Kansas and Utah.

The affected products were sold at the deli counter, both in bulk and prepackaged in various weights. Date Code: Best Before dates of FEB 08 09 H through FEB 16 09 H stamped on the top Reason for Recall: Potential salmonella contamination. There is very low risk of illness when preparation directions on box are followed and product is not consumed raw or undercooked. Salmonella bacteria is killed at a temperature of 160° F.

Gorton's Crispy Battered Fish Fillets

Recall Date: March 3, 2008 Available at Giant: No. This product was not sold at Giant Food. Product: Gorton's 6 Crispy Battered Fish Fillets 11.4 oz. UPC: 4440015770 Date Code: 7289G1 Best if Used by Date: April 2009 Reason for Recall: Possible adulteration. There have been no reports of illnesses from consumers. This product was distributed to retails outlets in Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Consumers who have the product may return it to Gorton's for a refund by calling 800-896-9479.
